The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will on Thursday, May 16, 2025, review the results of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) following widespread complaints from candidates and parents.
This was disclosed in a notice by AMB in its Abuja office, where it stated that the review meeting will include vice-chancellors, rectors, provosts, school principals, education experts, and tech professionals.
The aim is to scrutinise the exam process and address concerns about technical glitches and inconsistent scores.
It would be recalled that JAMB had revealed that out of 1,955,069 candidates, over 1.5 million scored below 200, fueling discontent nationwide.
UTME 2025 Result Breakdown
- 0.63% scored 300 and above
- 17.11% scored 200–249
- 50.29% scored 160–199
- 24.97% scored 140–159
- 0.10% scored below 100
The board confirmed that only 12,414 candidates (0.63%) scored 300 and above, while over 75% failed to cross the 200 mark out of 400.
JAMB spokesperson Dr. Fabian Benjamin said the board is fast-tracking its annual post-exam review, focusing on registration, testing, and result release stages. The review will address complaints from several states and determine whether technical errors affected candidate performance
JAMB also reaffirmed its policy to reschedule exams for any candidate affected by verified system failures.
Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede said the performance trend aligns with past years, noting:
“This is consistent with UTME results from the last 12 years.”
- 2024: 76% scored below 200
- 2022: 78% scored below 200
- 2021: Just 803 candidates scored above 300
Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa supported the results, stating they reflect improved anti-exam malpractice efforts.
JAMB assured that any candidate impacted by genuine technical issues during the 2025 UTME would be offered a chance to retake the exam, in line with board policy.
The outcome of the upcoming review will determine whether any results will be adjusted or exams re-administered.
