Ibok-Ete Ibas, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, announced that the previously withheld local government allocations have now been released. He made this statement during a meeting with local government administrators in Port Harcourt on Friday.
Ibas also reassured that measures will be put in place to ensure the timely payment of workers’ salaries, expressing empathy for their struggles by saying, “I feel the pain of the workers.”
The Sole Administrator highlighted the importance of financial accountability, vowing to closely monitor the management of public funds.
Regarding security, Ibas stressed the need for collaboration between traditional rulers and security agencies.
“You must take the lead in ensuring security within your domains,” he told local government administrators.
In response, Clifford Paul, the President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), praised the Federal Government for appointing the Sole Administrator. Paul, who also serves as the Administrator of Port Harcourt Local Government Area, credited the decision to Ibas’ competence.
He called on the administrator to make workers’ welfare a top priority, noting that local government workers were currently owed two months’ worth of salaries.
