The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned Nigeria’s immediate past Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, for questioning.

According to an invitation letter dated November 24 and signed by Sunday Atiba Ofen-Imu on behalf of EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, Malami is expected to appear before investigators on Friday, November 28, at the Commission’s headquarters in the Institution and Research District, Jabi, Abuja.

“The Commission is investigating a case in which the need to obtain certain information from you becomes imperative,” the letter stated, adding that the invitation was issued pursuant to Section 38(1) and (2) of the EFCC Establishment Act, 2024.

Malami was asked to appear before the Head of Special Duty Committee-3 for the session. The EFCC did not disclose the specific allegations or subject of the investigation.

In a response issued on Friday, Malami acknowledged receiving the EFCC’s letter and pledged to honour the invitation. He said he remained committed to transparency and accountability in public service.

“This is to confirm that I have been invited by the EFCC. As a law-abiding and patriotic citizen, I hereby reaffirm my commitment to honour the invitation,” he said.

He added that he had always championed accountability and would keep Nigerians informed as developments unfold.

Malami served as Attorney-General and Minister of Justice under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
