The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrested of two women involving in baby traffic, confirming NDN‘s exclusive report about the incident.

It would be recalled that this medium reported the arrest of the ladies, following the patriotism of an eagle-eye tricycle (keke) operator, who was tipped off by the unusual behaviour of the ladies during the trip.

The ladies had boarded the keke along PTI, after which they received a ‘parcel’, which turned out to be days-old baby.

The tricycle rider smartly diverted the two women, who have now been identifiedas Tessi Ikechukwu and Lauretta Akomen, and the newborn baby to Ekpan Police Station.

A statement by the state police command on Thursday said “Preliminary investigation revealed that one of the suspects Lauretta Akomen, aged 38 years, bought the baby for the sum of N2 million from a traditional home located in Port Harcourt.”

The police said the yet unidentified home was a baby factory, which harboured teenage girls, and got men to have sex with them till they were pregnant after which they sold the babies to people looking for children.

“The suspect also revealed that she was given a drug which she took for some time to make her look pregnant. She later led the DPO CSP Aliyu Shaba and operatives to the house of one Gloria (surname unknown) who acted as an agent between her and the traditional home.

“Suspects are in custody while a manhunt for the other accomplices is ongoing,” the statement reads.

Meanwhile, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, expressed gratitude to the tricycle rider for his patriotism and encouraged others to follow his example.
