The priest in charge of St Patrick Catholic Catholic church, Isiokpe, Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State, Reverend Father Livinus Maurice, and two other persons were abducted last Wednesday.
Police sources said gunmen snatched the trio on their way from hospital visitation in the locality.
The Catholic Diocese of Port Harcourt confirmed the incident.
A statement by the church revealed that the incident occurred on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, along the Isiokpo-Elele Road in the State.
The statement by the Chancellor of the Diocese, Reverend Father Bernadine Anaele, said the matter has been reported to the security agencies.
The statement said the Archbishop of the Diocese, Most Rev Camillus Etukudo urged the Catholic faithful of Port Harcourt Diocese and Nigeria to pray for the safe and unconditional release of the priest and those with him.
The statement added that the kidnappers had already contacted the Diocese and were demanding ransom.
The Rivers State Police Command has yet to issue any statement on the incident.
