Gunmen suspected to be members of the Greenland cult have launched an attack on military personnel guarding a crude oil pipeline in Okporowo community, Igbu Orlukwor clan, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, sending shockwaves through the community.
The attack, which occurred on Monday, February 10, 2025, at about 11 am, left one military personnel with life-threatening injuries, although no fatalities were reported.
According to sources, the cultists, led by one of their leaders who is on the watchlist of security agencies in the state, opened fire on the military personnel, prompting a swift response from the military operatives.
The cultists were forced to flee in disarray as the military returned rapid fire.
In the aftermath of the attack, residents and natives of the area began fleeing the community in fear of reprisals from the military, who were combing the area in search of the hoodlums.
The monarch of Igbu Orlukwor, Prince Ike Ehie, in a press statement signed by the head of information & documentation, Eze Igbu condemned the attack, describing it as an affront and insult to constituted authorities.
Ehie called on the government to fish out the perpetrators and urged security agencies to exhibit utmost professionalism in their response.
He also warned community paramount rulers to protect the public interest and avoid security breaches that could compromise the kingdom’s security, threatening dire consequences, including outright removal, for non-compliance.
He also sympathized with the military high command, Government, and particularly the victims.
