Unidentified gunmen have attacked two brothers at their family residence in Akunza, within Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, killing one and leaving the other injured.
The attack occurred on Monday, September 1, while the brothers, Cyril and his younger brother Edwin, were supervising construction work at the property. A family source said the assailants stormed the site after the workers had left for the day.
“They called out their names and tried to force the door open. When that failed, they went to the window and shot Edwin first, then Cyril,” the source said. Despite his injuries, Cyril was able to call their mother and alert her.
The family clarified that the attack did not happen on a farm, as initially speculated, but within a populated community with active neighbors nearby.
In a separate incident the same day, suspected bandits killed a man, Alhaji Sani, at his home in Lafia. One of the attackers was reportedly caught by residents and lynched.
Residents have expressed growing concern over the surge in violence across Lafia, calling the repeated killings “deeply alarming.”
