Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, on Friday officially resumed duty at the Government House, Port Harcourt, following the expiration of the Emergency Rule imposed on the state by President Bola Tinubu on March 18.

Fubara had earlier arrived at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, at about 11:40 a.m. in the company of his wife, Deputy Governor Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, Chief of Staff Edison Ehie, and other top aides.

He was warmly received by his former commissioners, local government chairmen, and several political leaders of the state before proceeding to the Government House.

Addressing supporters on arrival, Governor Fubara expressed gratitude to the people of Rivers for their steadfast support during his absence.

“I know everybody wants to hear something from me. In fact, I expected it when I landed,” he said.

“Let me first of all appreciate the wonderful people of Rivers State. I am really humbled by what I saw at the airport. The reception shows love, confidence, and solidarity. It is a reactivation of the bond between this government and the people of Rivers State.”

Fubara assured residents that his administration would remain committed to delivering the dividends of democracy.

“I want to assure you that we will, by the grace of God, continue to give those things that made you love us,” he added.

The governor is expected to make a formal statewide broadcast at 6 p.m. today.
