Rivers State Governor Siminilayi Fubara has lost his bid to stay proceedings in a suit seeking to stop revenue allocation to the recently inaugurated local government councils executives in the state.

In a ruling by Justice Joyce Abdumalik on Friday, the Federal High Court, Abuja, noted that the application of stay by the Rivers State Government’s legal team, led by Gordy Uche (SAN) was “frivolous, vexatious, unwarranted and mischievous.”

The suit, marked CA/ABJ/CV/1197/2024, was brought by the Rivers State House of Assembly and legal Speaker, Honourable Martin Amaewhule. It wants to compel the Federal Government through the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to halt allocation to the LGAs.

The Rivers State Government had sought to stay execution, because of its ongoing contest on the jurisdiction of the court to hear the matter at the Court of Appeal.

The ruling is a minor win for the embattled Amaehule, leader of 27 members of the 31-member state assembly.

The Speaker is loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike, who is now Minister of FCT, Abuja.
