At least four people have been rescued, while an undetermined number remain trapped beneath the rubble as a three-storey building collapsed on Thursday at 2/4 Asesi Lane, off Adeniji Adele Road in Lagos Island, prompting a major emergency response.
Eyewitnesses said the building gave way around midday during a light rainfall. The exact cause of the collapse had yet to be established at the time of reporting.
Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the incident and noted that search-and-rescue operations were still underway as of 9:00 p.m.
“Upon arrival, our team discovered that a three-storey residential structure had collapsed. The cause is still under investigation,” he said.
“Four individuals — two men and two women — were pulled from the debris by first responders and taken to the hospital for treatment.”
Rescue operations are ongoing as emergency responders work to locate any other victims who may still be trapped. Agencies at the scene include LASEMA, LASAMBUS, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
Efforts to clear the debris and ensure safety in the area continue.
