The Federal Government has called on the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) to reconsider its decision to embark on a nationwide strike.Minister of Labour and Employment, Mr. Muhammad Dingyadi, appealed during a meeting with NANNM leadership on Wednesday in Abuja.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), nurses across the country, under the umbrella of NANNM, have announced a seven-day warning strike set to begin Wednesday night. The strike action is in response to unresolved issues related to welfare, staffing, and working conditions.

The nurses are demanding better working conditions, improved welfare packages, adequate staffing, increased recognition, and fair remuneration, among other concerns.

Mr. Dingyadi urged the union to opt for dialogue instead of industrial action, emphasizing that “a strike is not the best solution to industrial disputes.”

He assured the association that the government is actively working to address their grievances and called for continued engagement to find common ground.

NAN also reports that discussions are scheduled to resume on Friday at the Federal Ministry of Health as part of ongoing efforts to reach a resolution.
