The Federal Government has approved N80 billion for the infrastructure upgrade of 100 Unity Schools, also known as Federal Government Colleges, across Nigeria.
This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, during an unscheduled inspection visit to Federal Government College, Kano, on Friday.
Prof. Ahmad said the visit aimed to assess the state of infrastructure, school leadership, and student welfare. She also highlighted the importance of evaluating the overall teaching and learning environment to ensure effective service delivery.
She emphasized that such engagements help strengthen collaboration between policymakers and school management in addressing existing challenges and improving facilities.
“The federal government remains committed to delivering quality education and enhancing teacher capacity to achieve educational goals,” she stated.
According to the minister, the ministry is also developing a digital platform to support nationwide teacher training.
“This platform will boost teacher effectiveness by providing access to training and educational resources, regardless of their location,” she said, adding that the investment would help provide modern infrastructure and a more conducive learning environment for students.
As part of the initiative, Prof. Ahmad also visited the Federal Government Girls’ College in Kazaure, reaffirming the government’s commitment to revitalizing Unity Schools and fostering effective teaching and learning environments nationwide.
