Former President Muhammadu Buhari is reportedly receiving medical treatment overseas following an undisclosed health concern, sources close to the former leader have revealed.

Though official details remain scarce, insiders suggest the 82-year-old former president has been under medical supervision for several days. The location of the facility where he is being treated has not been publicly disclosed, but it is believed to be in Europe.

According to sources, Buhari reportedly traveled to the United Kingdom for a routine medical check-up but subsequently fell ill.

Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023, had previously traveled abroad multiple times for medical reasons during his time in office, most notably in 2017, when he spent several months in London for an undisclosed illness

Buhari’s longtime spokesperson, Garba Shehu, confirmed the situation when reached for comment.

“Following your enquiry, I wish to state as follows: It is true that the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, is unwell. He has been receiving treatment in the UK,” Shehu said.

“You would recall he made it known that he was going for his annual medical check-up. He became ill there, but I am happy to announce to you that he is doing well in his recovery while receiving treatment. We pray for his healthy recovery,” he added.

The nature of Buhari’s illness and the name of the hospital where he is being treated have not been disclosed.
