The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Emeka Ufomba, 49, wanted for alleged involvement in criminal conspiracy, diversion of public funds, stealing, and money laundering.

The notice was issued on Wednesday by EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, via the Commission’s official Facebook page. According to the statement, Ufomba, an indigene of Abia State, was last traced to 13 Unity Drive, Eneka Paradise Estate, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The Commission urged anyone with useful information about his whereabouts to contact any of its zonal offices in Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt, or Abuja. Information may also be provided through the EFCC’s hotline: 08093322644, its email: info@efcc.gov.ng, or the nearest police station or security agency.

The declaration of Ufomba comes amid EFCC’s widening probe into alleged financial crimes involving some indigenes of Abia State.

Just days earlier, the Commission declared Christopher Enweremadu and Fortune Ozoemela wanted for similar allegations of conspiracy, diversion of funds, and money laundering. Enweremadu, who once served as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters under former Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, is reportedly linked to an investigation into the management of allocations to Abia’s 17 local government councils.

In December 2024, an Abuja High Court authorized a probe into council allocations between 2019 and 2023, directing the EFCC to submit its findings. The court also ordered the seizure of the international passports of Enweremadu, Erondu Uchenna Erondu (a former aide to Governor Ikpeazu), and Deaconess Joy Nwanju, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.

The ruling followed an ex parte motion by an activist who alleged that billions of naira meant for Abia’s local governments were misappropriated under the supervision of key officials.
