The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 25 students of Bayero University Kano (BUK) over alleged involvement in internet fraud.
EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the operation took place on Monday near the university’s New Site in Kano.
According to Oyewale, the arrest followed actionable intelligence and weeks of surveillance linking the suspects to cybercrime, identity theft, and financial scams.
“All suspects apprehended are confirmed to be undergraduate students of BUK,” he said.
Items recovered during the sting operation include mobile phones, laptops, internet routers, and a Honda Accord vehicle.
Oyewale added that the suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
