Why I Stormed INEC Collection Centre – Obaseki
Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has explained that he went to INEC office in Benin in the early hours of Sunday because of report that PDP agents were denied access to the INEC’s collation centre.
Obaseki, who spoke during a press conference by the PDP National campaign for the election, said, “At 1.00 AM I got a report that the collation of results had been moved to INEC office. The report from our agents was that they were not being allowed into the collation centre.
“I went to INEC office to with the REC to know the next step of the collations. I did not see any collation taking place. The REC refused to come out and explain what the situation was.”
He expressed concern that INEC did not inform the public that they had stopped collation.
Meanwhile, Governor Fintiri of Adamawa State, who ‘announced’ some results of the election, claimed that the PDP was winning till INEC stopped the process. He said there were reports of overvoting, and mutilation of election results by another party.
Fintiri was flanked by Governors Sheriff Oborevwori and Ibrahim Kefas of Delta and Taraba states respectively, as well as the party’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo and other leaders of the party at the national and state levels.
Earlier, Ighodalo had expressed the decision of the party to protest the outcome of Saturday’s election, even though the electoral body is yet to announce the outcome of the election.
The Director General of the Asue/Ogie Campaign Council, Hon Matthew Iduoriyekemwen, who made the revelation on Sunday morning hinted that the INEC was manipulating the election to favour the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Sen Monday Okpebholo.
Iduoriyekemwen said the PDP was cruising to victory, saying that they had information that there were plans to mutilate the final results that would reflect the wishes of the voters.
He also alleged that the leader of the APC in the state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and reinstated deputy governor of the state Philip Shaibu were thumb-printing ballot papers to close the gap with which they were leading.
“We will not accept this, we will contest it,” he said this at about 2:27 am when He led the protesters to the venue.
They have since been dispersed by the police shortly after speaking to journalists through the barricade
