The suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminialayi Fubara, has distanced himself from militant groups allegedly threatening the federal government over the ongoing political crisis in the state.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, in Port Harcourt, Fubara decried attempts to link him with such groups, stating that reports of attacks on oil installations were unfounded, as affected communities had refuted the claims.
“Virtually all the fabricated videos have been attributed to supposed militant groups, with their creators desperately trying to connect them to Governor Siminialayi Fubara’s supporters.
“Communities, where these alleged incidents occurred, have since debunked any reports of attacks on oil and gas facilities, affirming that all critical infrastructure in their areas remains intact and fully operational.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Siminialayi Fubara has no affiliations with any militant group, nor does he endorse or support criminal activities. He remains committed to maintaining peace in Rivers State and ensuring the security of vital government assets, including oil and gas facilities, which are crucial to the national economy.
“The Governor has consistently emphasized, in every public forum, that the peace and stability of Rivers State are his top priorities. He is prepared to take all necessary steps to safeguard and sustain that peace, as only a secure environment can foster governance and development.”
Fubara further condemned any attempts to incite violence or sabotage critical infrastructure, warning criminals to stay away from the state.
“It is also imperative to caution bloggers and social media operatives against spreading falsehoods that create unnecessary panic and disorder. Their misleading reports over the past few days have fueled tensions and could lead to decisions that may not be in the best interest of the state.
“Security agencies should take note of these deceptive videos aimed at misinforming the public and tarnishing Rivers State’s image. They must take decisive action to track down and hold those responsible accountable.”*
The statement reaffirms Fubara’s commitment to peace and development while urging all stakeholders to resist attempts to destabilize the state.
