American music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been sentenced to 50 months in prison by a U.S. federal court after being convicted on prostitution-related charges, marking a dramatic fall for one of hip-hop’s most influential figures.

U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian delivered the ruling in Manhattan on Friday, also imposing a $500,000 fine and five years of supervised release. Combs, 55, will receive credit for the 12 months already served in custody since his September 2024 arrest.

Combs was found guilty in July of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, involving arranging for escorts to cross state lines for drug-fueled sexual encounters with his ex-girlfriends. He was acquitted of more serious counts, including sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy, which could have led to decades behind bars. Prosecutors had sought an 11-year sentence, but Judge Subramanian opted for a shorter term, while stressing that the evidence of abuse and coercion was “massive and disturbing.”

In a tearful statement, Combs apologized to his former partners, including singer Cassie Ventura, admitting to “disgusting, shameful, and sick” behavior. “I’ve been humbled and broken to my core,” Combs told the court, pleading for leniency. The judge commended the women who testified, telling them their courage ensured their voices were heard.

The conviction has shaken the global music industry. Once celebrated for his chart-topping hits, clothing line, and liquor brands, Combs now faces a legacy overshadowed by scandal. His lawyers confirmed he will appeal the conviction, while multiple civil lawsuits remain pending.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that Combs has launched a prison mentorship program, teaching a six-week business course called “Free Game With Diddy” to fellow inmates.
