The Delta State Police Command has ordered the redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jesse Division, CSP Chidi Nwabuzor, following allegations of extortion involving the sum of N2.5 million.

The action followed a viral video in which a woman accused the DPO and two police officers, identified as Bright and Usman, of collecting the money to secure the release of her brother from police custody.

According to the Command, the suspect at the centre of the allegation, 20-year-old Israel Onojeruo, was arrested on January 1, 2026, after being implicated by another suspect who allegedly sold a firearm to him. The suspects were subsequently transferred to the State Anti-Cult Unit for further investigation.

In response to the extortion claims, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Aina Adesola, directed the X-Squad to immediately investigate the matter.

A statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said one of the officers mentioned in the video, Constable Bright, has been detained, while CSP Nwabuzor has been removed from his position and redeployed to the Command Headquarters pending the outcome of the investigation.

The statement added that the redeployment of the DPO was also informed by multiple complaints of extortion and unprofessional conduct previously received against him from different quarters.

CP Adesola assured members of the public that any officer found culpable would be sanctioned in accordance with the Police Act and relevant regulations, stressing that the Command has zero tolerance for extortion, intimidation and unprofessional conduct.
