The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has warned the public to disregard fake appointment letters currently circulating online, describing them as fraudulent and misleading.
In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday, October 17, 2025, the Service clarified that it is not issuing appointment letters at this stage of its ongoing recruitment exercise.
“The Nigeria Customs Service is not issuing appointment letters at this stage of its recruitment exercise. Appointment letters circulating online are FAKE and should be disregarded,” the statement read.
NCS explained that the recruitment process is still at the examination stage, noting that the Superintendent Cadre recently concluded its Computer-Based Test (CBT) across the six geopolitical zones, while the Inspector and Customs Assistant Cadres have also completed their online tests.
The Service said the fake letters were another attempt by fraudsters to deceive unsuspecting applicants and urged Nigerians to rely only on verified updates from its official communication channels.
In December 2024, the NCS announced the commencement of its 2025 recruitment exercise to fill 3,927 vacancies across the Superintendent, Inspector, and Customs Assistant cadres. The Service reiterated that the process remains free and transparent, warning applicants to beware of scammers posing as officials.
It added that it received over 573,000 applications in the first phase of the exercise, emphasizing that only qualified candidates who meet the eligibility requirements will be considered for appointment once the process is duly completed.
