Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), operator of the joint venture with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has reiterated its dedication to the development of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

CNL Chairman and Managing Director, Jim Swartz, made this known on Wednesday during a visit by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, and his delegation to Chevron’s Escravos operational base in Delta State.

In a statement by Olusoga Oduselu, CNL’s General Manager for Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Swartz noted that Chevron has invested in Nigeria for over six decades, significantly contributing to the country’s economic development through joint venture operations and interests in onshore and offshore assets across the Niger Delta.

He emphasized that Chevron’s operations are driven by “The Chevron Way,” which prioritizes affordable, reliable, and cleaner energy, innovation, and integrity.

Swartz reaffirmed Chevron’s support for key government initiatives, including the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) 2021, the Decade of Gas initiative, and Nigerian Content development.

“We are proud to align with the Federal Government’s aspirations for the oil and gas sector, including the PIA, the Decade of Gas, and efforts to build local capacity through Nigerian Content,” Swartz stated.

Segun Kuteyi, Director for the NNPCL JV, highlighted Chevron’s “North Star” strategy, focused on business performance, gas monetisation, and increased crude oil production. Recent achievements include converting legacy JV leases under the PIA, renewing deepwater licenses, and discoveries such as the Meji NW-1 oil field.

During the visit, the Minister received a briefing on Chevron’s integrated operations in Escravos, which span upstream swamp, shallow, and deep offshore assets, as well as key midstream infrastructure like the Escravos Gas Plant, the Escravos Gas-to-Liquids facility, and the West African Gas Pipeline — all critical to domestic power, fertilizer production, and regional energy security.

Senator Lokpobiri commended Chevron for its resilience in maintaining operations in swamp and shallow water terrains, where many international oil companies have divested. He also praised the company’s integrity in community relations, local contracting, job creation, and its use of technology for operational and security monitoring.

The visit concluded with a tour of CNL’s facilities, during which the Minister assured continued government support for partnerships that bolster Nigeria’s energy security and economic growth.
