British-Nigerian actor Junior Salokun has announced his plans to make a significant impact in Nollywood, with a focus on taking on leading roles that challenge norms and spotlight African narratives on the global stage.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja, Salokun said his goal is to use film as a medium to bridge cultural gaps and share authentic stories.

“Storytelling has always been a passion of mine. I’m especially interested in roles that delve into the complexity of human emotions and experience,” he said. “I want to be part of films that resonate internationally while staying true to Nigerian culture and proudly showcasing our heritage.”

Salokun expressed excitement about Nollywood’s growing international recognition and said he’s eager to contribute to its continued success.

“Nollywood is now being acknowledged worldwide, and I’m thrilled at the opportunity to be part of that movement,” he said. “My acting journey has included work on Netflix, the film Blue Story, BBC/Paramount projects, as well as several stage productions and short films.”

He added that his focus is now shifting toward expanding his presence in Nollywood, where he hopes to collaborate with local creatives and bring meaningful stories to life.

“I’m looking forward to working with talented professionals in the Nigerian film industry. I aim to contribute to projects that not only entertain but also inspire and educate audiences,” he said.

Born and raised in London, Salokun has already built a diverse portfolio, including appearances in Blue Story (2019), My Brudda (2023), and the upcoming Netflix sci-fi series Supacell (2024).
