Not less than 20 residents of Okija community in Anambra State have reportedly lost their lives in a stampede that occurred on Saturday morning at an event for the distribution of rice.
Multiple social media videos sighted by Naijadailynews show lifeless bodies lying on the ground after the incident.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Anambra State, Charles Aburime, has confirmed the incident.
Aburime said the state government is monitoring the situation and would soon release a statement.
The incident comes a few days after over 35 people, mostly children, died during a stampede at a carnival in Ibadan, Oyo state capital and few hours after the Abuja Catholic Church stampede.
