Nigeria and Atalanta Football Club forward, Ademola Lookman has won the Confederation of African Football Player of the Year 2024.
Ademola Lookman was crowned the 2024 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Player of the Year at the ceremony held in Marrakech, Morocco.
Lookman’s exceptional performances for his club and the Nigerian national team this year played a significant role in his victory. He scored a hat-trick in the Europa League final, helping his club win their first European trophy.
Lookman edged out strong competition from players like Achraf Hakimi (Morocco), Serhou Guirassy (Guinea), Simon Adingra (Côte d’Ivoire), and Ronwen Williams (South Africa).
Lookman played a pivotal role in Atalanta’s historic Europa League victory, scoring a hat-trick in the final to secure the club’s first European trophy since 1963.
For the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Lookman scored three key goals during the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), helping Nigeria reach the final.
He was consistent in his performance In the 2023-2024 season, recording 17 goals and 10 assists in 45 games for Atalanta. His form has continued into the current season with 11 goals in 19 games.
He was also ranked the 14th-best player in the world at this year’s Ballon d’Or award
Lookman embraced his Yoruba roots by wearing a green agbada inspired by the Nigerian flag.
His consistent performances for both club and country have made him one of the standout players in African football.
His win marks the second consecutive year a Nigerian player has received the award, following Victor Osimhen’s victory in 20232.
