Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested eight additional suspects over their alleged involvement in the December 24, 2025 suicide bombing at a mosque in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The latest arrests came barely three days after the alleged mastermind of the attack, identified as Sheriff Umar, was apprehended by troops in the state capital.
The suicide attack occurred at the Gamboru Market mosque, where a bomber detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) during prayers, killing at least five worshippers and injuring 35 others.
Confirming the development in a statement, the Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Sani Uba, said the suspects were arrested during a cordon-and-search operation in the Yan Lemu area of Mubi South.
According to him, a search of the suspects’ residence led to the recovery of cash, mobile phones, identification documents, ATM cards, jewellery and other personal belongings, all of which are currently undergoing forensic analysis.
Uba disclosed that a suspect already in custody positively identified two of the arrested persons as the principal suppliers of materials used in the fabrication of the IED.
He added that further investigations revealed that other occupants of the residence were also linked to the terror network behind the deadly attack.
