The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has explained that it re-arrested popular cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye (also known as Bobrisky), over his alleged N15m bribe to the commission’s operative.
A viral video showed how Bobrisky was forcefully ejected from an Amsterdam-bound KLM plane on Thursday night by immigration officers at Murtala Muhammed International Airport.
She was allegedly on her way to London, United Kingdom.
A Vanguard newspaper report on Friday quoted a senior EFCC official indicating that Bobrisky’s re-arrest was due to his failure to respond to multiple invitations from the EFCC concerning allegations he made against the agency.
The EFCC source clarified that Bobrisky’s claims pertained to bribery and corruption, specifically alleging that he paid N15 million to EFCC officials to have money laundering charges against him dismissed.
The EFCC has refuted these allegations and suggested that Bobrisky may face new charges for providing false information.
“We apprehended him in Lagos, and he will be transported to Abuja,” the source stated.
“He has accused us of bribery and corruption, yet he has consistently ignored our summons to substantiate these claims. Such serious allegations cannot be overlooked.
“Additionally, he has failed to appear before the National Assembly on this matter. We had no choice but to take him into custody to ensure he provides evidence to support his accusations.”
Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity at the EFCC, confirmed Bobrisky’s arrest but declined to provide further details.
In a recent Instagram post, Bobrisky alleged that EFCC officials had arrested him and claimed to have sustained injuries during an altercation with immigration officers.
The EFCC had previously cautioned that Bobrisky could face charges for providing false information if his allegations were determined to be unfounded.
