Bandits armed with dangerous weapons have reportedly invaded several communities in Katsina State, abducting many residents during coordinated night attacks.

Eyewitnesses said the attacks occurred on Monday night when heavily armed bandits stormed the affected areas, operating for several hours and unleashing violence on the communities. Security sources disclosed that the attackers first struck Unguwar Alhaji Barau before moving to Gidan Dan Mai-gizo and Gidan Hazo communities, all in Na’alma Ward of Malumfashi Local Government Area.

As of Tuesday, security agencies were yet to issue an official statement on the incident, and the exact number of people abducted or injured remained unclear. The spokesman of the Katsina State Police Command, Abubakar Sadiq, said he was not immediately aware of the attack but promised to verify the report and respond accordingly. “Please, let me check because I’m just hearing about the attack from you now. I will be back to you,” he said.

Malumfashi is regarded as one of the frontline local government areas in Katsina State where bandit attacks have intensified in recent times, despite peace agreements reportedly reached between local authorities and armed groups operating in the area.

The latest attacks come barely weeks after a deadly mosque assault in Malumfashi. On August 19, 2025, armed bandits invaded a mosque in Unguwar Mantau community, opening fire on worshippers and killing at least 32 people.
