The average retail price for refilling a 5kg cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (cooking gas) dropped by 22.32% in August 2025, falling to N6,404.02 from N8,243.79 recorded in July.

This was revealed in the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) report titled “Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) Price Watch”, released on Thursday.

On a year-on-year basis, the August 2025 figure reflects a marginal decline of 0.40% compared to N6,430.02 in August 2024.

Similarly, the average retail price of refilling a 12.5kg cylinder fell by 21.42% month-on-month, dropping from N20,609.48 in July 2025 to N16,195.07 in August. However, on an annual basis, the figure rose by 4.13% from N15,552.56 in August 2024.

The NBS report showed that Katsina recorded the highest average price for a 5kg cylinder at N6,945.21, followed by Taraba (N6,893.12) and Rivers (N6,886.49).

The lowest prices were recorded in Delta (N5,657.50), Bauchi (N5,721.75), and Borno (N6,070.56).

Across geopolitical zones, the North-West posted the highest average retail price for a 5kg refill at N6,473.63, followed by the North-East (N6,465.63), while the South-South recorded the lowest at N6,331.29.

For 12.5kg cylinders, Yobe topped the list at N16,887.42, with Adamawa (N16,872.40) and Ebonyi (N16,859.17) close behind. The lowest prices were seen in Benue (N15,102.50), Borno (N15,176.39), and Imo (N15,177.58).

By zone, the North-West recorded the highest average price for 12.5kg at N16,358.15, followed by the South-East (N16,344.61). The South-West posted the lowest average at N15,865.17.

In July 2025, the average retail price for a 5kg refill fell by 0.96% from N8,323.95 in June to N8,243.79. The 12.5kg cylinder price also dipped 1.91%, from N21,010.56 in June to N20,609.48 in July.
