No fewer than 8,433 delegates are expected to participate in the 2026 national convention of the All Progressives Congress at Eagle Square.

The delegates will be led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside 31 state governors and members of the Federal Executive Council.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this during a meeting with journalists at Transcorp Hilton Abuja, where he outlined plans and expectations for the convention scheduled for March 27 and 28.

Idris, who is also Co-Chairman of the convention’s Media and Publicity Committee, highlighted the level of preparedness and logistics put in place, urging committee members to work in unity to ensure effective communication and the smooth delivery of the event.

He stressed the need for sacrifice and discipline among party members, noting that the APC must continue to project strong internal democratic values in line with the leadership style of the president.

According to him, the convention represents a significant milestone for the ruling party as it seeks to strengthen its internal structures and democratic processes ahead of future elections.

The party has already confirmed it will adopt a consensus approach in selecting its national leaders during the convention.

Assistant Secretary for Media and Publicity, Mary Ikoku, had earlier disclosed on Sunrise Daily that a decision on how elective positions during primaries would be handled is yet to be finalised, adding that such decisions may depend on local political dynamics.

The meeting was attended by governors, members of the 2026 National Convention Central Coordination Committee, and other key stakeholders, including the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo; the Minister of Art, Culture and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa; Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga; and Special Adviser on Public Communication and Orientation, Sunday Dare.

The convention will see party members elect new national executives who will steer the affairs of the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections. The new leadership will also be responsible for conducting primaries to produce candidates for presidential, governorship, National Assembly, and state House of Assembly elections.
