The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that it will reschedule the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 379,997 candidates who experienced technical disruptions during the 2025 exam.

According to JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the glitches affected a total of 157 examination centres across Lagos and five South-Eastern states. In Lagos alone, 206,610 candidates across 65 centres were impacted. Meanwhile, the Owerri zone, which includes the South-East states, recorded 173,387 affected candidates in 92 centres.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, Prof. Oloyede described the disruption as an act of sabotage and accepted full responsibility for the situation.

“I apologise. I take full responsibility,” he said. “The affected candidates will begin receiving text messages from the Board starting Thursday, with details of their rescheduled exam dates.”

The development comes amid concerns over the overall performance in the 2025 UTME. Of the 1.9 million candidates who sat for the examination, over 1.5 million reportedly scored below 200 out of a maximum of 400, raising alarms across Nigeria’s education sector.
