President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, on his 60th birthday, which he celebrated on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu praised Amaechi for his many years of dedicated service to Nigeria. He described Amaechi as a prominent figure in Nigerian politics whose influence has been strongly felt in Rivers State and across the country.
President Tinubu highlighted Amaechi’s political journey, starting from his time as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly to his two terms as Governor of Rivers State. He also acknowledged Amaechi’s leadership as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, where he helped shape policy and promote cooperation among the 36 states.
Tinubu also celebrated Amaechi’s work at the national level, especially during his eight-year tenure as Minister of Transportation under President Muhammadu Buhari. During that period, Amaechi led significant infrastructure projects, including the revival of Nigeria’s railway system and the modernisation of key transport networks.
The President expressed admiration for Amaechi’s continued relevance in Nigerian politics. As a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Amaechi played a critical role in building the coalition that led the party to victory in 2015. His influence, particularly in the South-South region, remains strong.
President Tinubu concluded by wishing Amaechi a long life, good health, and continued success. He prayed for God’s grace upon the former minister and said he looks forward to his ongoing contributions to national development.
