Airtel Africa has announced the retirement of its Senior Independent Non-Executive Director, Andrew Green, effective January 29, 2026, after more than six years on the board.

In a filing with the Nigerian Exchange (NGX), the company said Green had informed the board of his decision to step down, with members expressing appreciation for his leadership and contribution.

Tsega Gebreyes will succeed him as Senior Independent Non-Executive Director. Gebreyes, appointed to the board in October 2021, currently chairs the Remuneration Committee and serves on the Nominations Committee. Cynthia Gordon will assume the role of Remuneration Committee Chair following the leadership changes.

Airtel Africa Chair, Sunil Bharti Mittal, praised Green for his “vision, integrity, and commitment,” noting that his impact on the company would be long remembered.

The announcement follows Airtel Africa’s strong half-year performance ended September 30, 2025, during which revenue rose 25.8% year-on-year to $2.98 billion. Data revenue grew 37% to $1.16 billion, overtaking voice income for the first time in the company’s history.

Profit before tax surged 269% to $656 million, while profit after tax jumped 375% to $376 million. The company added over 2,350 new network sites, extending 4G coverage to 98.5% and expanding its fibre network to over 81,000 kilometres.

Airtel said it plans to increase capital expenditure for FY2026 to between $875 million and $900 million to support continued network growth and data centre investments.
