An explosion near the busy Mararaba-Nyanya Bypass in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Monday afternoon has left one man injured, prompting a swift response from security agencies and raising fresh concerns about public safety in the Abuja metropolitan area.

The incident occurred around 2:50 p.m. on May 26, 2025. Police authorities confirmed that a male victim was injured in the blast and is currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital. His identity and condition have not yet been disclosed.

According to the FCT Police Command, officers from its Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit were immediately dispatched to the scene following reports of the explosion. The area was cordoned off to allow for forensic analysis and ensure the safety of commuters and residents in the densely populated Nyanya-Mararaba corridor, which serves as a key gateway between Abuja and Nasarawa State.

In a statement issued by police spokesperson SP Josephine Adeh, the Command emphasised that a comprehensive investigation is already underway to determine the cause and nature of the blast. It did not immediately confirm whether the explosion was criminal in nature or accidental.

Authorities have urged members of the public to remain calm but vigilant, especially in crowded public spaces. Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious items, persons, or movements to law enforcement using the FCT emergency hotlines: 08032003913, 08028940883, and 07057337653.

Naija Daily News recalls that the Nyanya and Mararaba axis has previously experienced security-related incidents, making the latest explosion a matter of serious concern for commuters and security watchers alike. As investigations continue, the FCT Police Command reassures the public that necessary measures are being taken to safeguard lives and property.
