Scores of fitness enthusiasts and staff of the popular Eco-fitness Hub narrowly, Gwarinpa, Abuja escaped death in the early hours of Wednesday, following a major fire outbreak at the centre.
Although the cause of the outbreak was not immediately known, sources said over four dozen persons, including exercisers and coaches, were in the building when the fire started.
The fire, which reportedly started from the restaurant attached to the ‘Gym’ upstairs, had people running helter-skelter for their lives.
A shared on the social media site X (former Twitter) showed many people who had escaped standing in front of the fitness centre as the fire burned.
A lady was heard advising others, suspected to be her colleagues to prioritise their safety: “Your safety comes first; all those things can be replaced,” she advised.
The cause of the fire is not known yet, but sources said the fitness centre was full of day activities when the fire started.
