Five corpses, including that of a toddler, have been recovered after a passenger speedboat capsized in Warri Southwest Local Government Council of Delta State.
It was gathered that the accident occurred around Benneth Island, at the weekend.
A statement by Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the deaths.
“Five found dead, six persons injured and still receiving treatment, 19 persons rescued, and one still missing.” the statement reads.
The passengers were said to be returning from a burial ceremony at Gbaramatu Kingdom when the unfortunate incident happened.
The speedboat reportedly collided with a submerged log, throwing the passengers overboard.
Most of the passengers, we learned, were not able to swim and were without life jackets.
