Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, would not accept a running mate slot to Mr Peter Obi, in the 2027 presidential election.

Buba Galadima, an associate of Kwankwaso, made the clarified media reports that the NNPP presidential candidate was willing to be the junior partner in a coalition to topple President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next election.

Galadima, who is a member of the NNPP, noted that Kwankwaso, a two-term former governor of Kano State, and former Minister of Defence, was superior in political knowledge and experience to Obi, who was the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in 2023.

“The NNPP presidential flagbearer is far ahead of the former Anambra State Governor in everything. So, saying that Kwankwaso will serve as Obi’s running mate in the next three years is to relegate him to the background such speculation does not hold ground,” he said.

Niger Daily News recalls that there have been plans for a merger between many political actors, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Kwankwaso and other political heavyweights ahead of the next elections.

However, as they were in 2023, such plans have been scuttled by ego and supremacy tussles among the key characters.

It would be recalled that Peter Obi had also denied similar reports linking him with being the junior partner in a presidential ticket for 2027.
