The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 17-year-old boy, Auwal Dahiru, alongside five others, for allegedly plucking out the eyes of his seven-year-old sister, Rukayya Muhammad, in a suspected money ritual attempt in Bayan Dutse Village, Wailo, Kubi Ward, Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Wakil, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.
According to Wakil, the incident was reported on October 17, 2025, by one Muhammad Adamu of Bayan Dutse Village at the Soro Divisional Police Headquarters.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the seven-year-old victim, Rukayya Muhammad, lost her eyesight permanently after her elder brother, Auwalu Muhammad, lured her into the bush and forcefully removed both of her eyes in a bid to perform a money ritual,” the statement read.
Wakil added that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Soro Division, Aliyu Goni, led a team of detectives to the scene, where the suspect was arrested. The victim was rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for treatment.
“Sadly, a medical doctor confirmed that the young girl will never regain her sight,” he added.
Other suspects arrested in connection with the crime include Mohammed Rabiu, 19; Saleh Ibrahim, 20; Nasiru Muhammad of Soro town; Hassan Garba of Soro town; and Garba Dahiru, 43.
The police spokesperson said all the suspects voluntarily confessed during interrogation, adding that investigations are ongoing to uncover the motive behind the crime and bring everyone involved to justice.
