The 3 Battalion of the Nigerian Army has arrested a record 123 fraudsters, popularly called Yahoo at an internet fraud training and coaching facility (also known as HK) at a Nigerian Army Estate in Effurun, Delta State.
The security operatives stormed the highbrow Nigerian Army Retirement Estate, which is located at Effurun-Sapele expressway in Uvwie Local Government Area of the state, apparently following tipoff from other residents of the exurb estate.
It was gathered that a suspected fraudster had chosen the site for his criminal training school, popularly known as HK for the exercise.
The school proprietor, whose identity was yet unknown, is among the over 10 dozen suspects arrested by the military in the massive operation last weekend.
Investigations by Naija Daily News showed that although the estate was created as a housing scheme for retired military personnel, the security it offers has made it an attractive real estate for developers, a state that has taken it out of reach for the target homeowners.
Sources revealed that the suspect chose the military estate as the site of his nefarious activity due to its insulation from security scrutiny and invasion by men of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the Police.
The Delta State Police Command confirmed the development, through its spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, on Monday. He said the suspects would only be arraigned at the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
