A parish of the Christ Apostolic Church in Ibadan, Oyo State was reportedly engulfed by a devastating fire during their vigil on Friday night, trapping several worshippers inside.
We learned on Saturday morning that the incident occurred at about 9:30 pm at Wisdom Estate, Road 1G, Olohunda Road, in the Lagelu Local Government Area of the state.
One source recounted, “The incident happened at around 9:30 pm. I think they were having a Friday vigil. Some worshippers had already slept off to rest before the vigil started when the incident happened.”
Another source said “There was an aged woman, very old to the extent that she could not walk properly. She was still inside the church when the fire was raging seriously.”
As of the reporting time, the exact cause of the fire remains unclear.
The Oyo State Fire Services General Manager, Akinyemi Akinyinka, confirmed the incident.
He said: “Our men were there based on information from one Kunle Junaid.”
He promised to provide further updates.
