A 23-year-old woman, Abigail Victor, appeared before a Kaduna Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday over allegations of stabbing her boyfriend with a knife.
Victor, who resides in Ungwan Sunday, Kaduna, is arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and causing bodily harm.
According to the Prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo, the incident occurred on May 17 in the Sabon Tasha area of Kaduna. He stated that Victor allegedly conspired with two accomplices, who are currently at large, to assault her boyfriend, Dominic James, following a dispute over infidelity.
“She contacted two of her friends who went with her to the complainant’s residence. They assaulted him and stabbed him in the shoulder,” Leo told the court.
The assault was halted by neighbors who intervened and rushed the injured victim to the hospital.
The charges brought against the defendant are in violation of Sections 58 and 284 of the Kaduna State Penal Code (2017). Section 58 carries a maximum sentence of one year, while Section 284 stipulates a minimum sentence of five years upon conviction.
Victor pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were read to her.
The presiding Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel granted her bail set at N200,000, with a surety of the same amount. The surety must be a relative and provide a three-year tax clearance issued by the Kaduna State Government.
The case was adjourned to June 17 for hearing.
