The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has confirmed that a windstorm triggered by heavy rainfall caused damage to parts of the Kugbo Bus Terminal in Nyanya, Abuja, prompting swift action by authorities to secure the area and commence repairs.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, said the storm also inflicted minor damage on the Nyanya pedestrian bridge and some nearby buildings.
He explained that the incident occurred during a heavy downpour earlier in the day, noting that initial assessments showed limited impact.
According to Olayinka, no casualties were recorded and no vehicles were affected by the windstorm.
He further disclosed that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, had directed the immediate deployment of security personnel to the affected area to maintain order and ensure the free flow of traffic.
The FCTA added that urgent steps are being taken to repair the damaged infrastructure and restore normalcy, assuring residents of continued efforts to ensure safety in the area.
