The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has announced that comprehensive reforms are set to be implemented in the FCT transportation sector, aimed at enhancing both safety and passenger comfort.

Wike made this known on Friday in Abuja following an inspection of the newly completed Kugbo and Mabushi Bus and Taxi Terminals. The terminals are being prepared for inauguration as part of the celebrations marking President Bola Tinubu’s second year in office.

The minister also visited the completed access road to the Giri District, which is similarly set for commissioning.

He emphasized that significant changes are coming to the FCT’s transportation system, with a dedicated committee currently finalizing the reform plans. These measures are expected to be in place ahead of the terminals’ official launch.

“Obviously a lot of things will happen in the transport sector in the FCT. There will be a lot of reforms

“Because as part of security measures, we must know those involved in taxi business and what colour to use, so that if anything happens, we will be able to identify them.

“Just be assured that we are doing everything possible to strengthen our transportation system,” he said.

The minister stated that the FCT Administration is actively working to remove numerous roadside motor parks.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the construction of the Kugbo, Mabushi, and Central Area Bus and Taxi Terminals is part of a broader initiative to enhance the transportation system in the FCT.

While the Kugbo and Mabushi terminals are ready for commissioning, construction is still ongoing at the Central Area terminal.

The minister further disclosed plans to build two additional terminals—one each in Bwari and Gwagwalada.
