A housewife, Ifeoma Okafor, was on Friday brought before a Senior Magistrate’s Court in Gwagwalada, Federal Capital Territory, for allegedly threatening her husband’s life with a knife.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Okafor, who resides behind the ECWA Goodnews Church in Gwagwalada, is facing charges of criminal intimidation and mischief.
The prosecutor, Abdulahi Tanko, informed the court that the complainant, Mr. Paul Okafor—who lives at the same address—reported the incident to the police on June 6.
Tanko stated that on June 1, the defendant knocked on the complainant’s door, and when he opened it, she was holding a knife. She allegedly threatened to kill him and also threatened to stab herself during a domestic dispute.
Additionally, the defendant was accused of damaging one of the complainant’s window louvers, although the cost of the damage had not yet been assessed.
The offences are said to be in violation of Sections 396 and 326 of the Penal Code.
Okafor pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Senior Magistrate Munir Sani granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties. He specified that one surety must be a biological relative of the defendant residing within the court’s jurisdiction. This surety is required to present either a National ID card or a driver’s licence. The second surety must provide a bank statement reflecting the bail amount.
The case was adjourned until July 16 for hearing.
