United States immigration authorities have placed 79 Nigerians on a priority deportation roster covering foreign nationals convicted of serious crimes, as part of an enforcement sweep targeting what officials described as high-risk offenders.
The action is being driven by the United States Department of Homeland Security through arrests and detention carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Authorities say those listed were convicted of offences ranging from drug trafficking and fraud to violent crimes including assault, rape, robbery and manslaughter.
Homeland Security said the current deportation push focuses first on non-citizens with major criminal records, noting that removal proceedings will follow established immigration law and due process.
Officials described the publication of selected names as part of transparency around enforcement priorities, adding that the operation involves offenders from multiple countries, not only Nigeria.
