The UK government has released a list of unclaimed estates belonging to individuals from various countries who passed away in the United Kingdom, including 58 Nigerians.

These estates have been classified as “Bona Vacantia,” meaning they have remained unclaimed for a significant period and have thus become the property of the Crown.

In the latest update, released on Monday, March 24, the UK government disclosed that a total of 5,806 individuals from different countries died without any relatives coming forward to claim their properties.

The published list includes the names, birth and death dates, and places of death of the deceased individuals. Nigerians with unclaimed estates include:

What You Need to Do

Families of these deceased individuals are encouraged to come forward and claim their estates. If you believe you are a relative of any person listed, you should:

  1. Verify Your Relationship – Gather relevant documents proving your connection to the deceased.
  2. Contact the Bona Vacantia Division – Visit gov.uk for detailed instructions on how to submit your claim.
  3. Provide Necessary Documentation – This may include birth certificates, marriage certificates, or any legal proof of kinship.

Why This Matters

These estates could include valuable assets such as property, savings, pensions, and personal belongings. If left unclaimed, they will permanently remain under the possession of the Crown.

Research Findings

Despite the extensive list, reports indicate that no relatives of the deceased have stepped forward to make a claim.

Those who have any information or believe they might have a rightful claim were advised to act immediately before it’s too late.
