Two boys, aged 16 and 12, are said to have drowned in separate rivers in the Owhelogbo and Ugbolokposo communities, located in the Isoko North and Isoko South Local Government Areas of Delta State.
Reports indicate that the 16-year-old drowned on Wednesday evening, while the 12-year-old drowned on Saturday, March 8.
As of the time of reporting, details surrounding the incident involving the 12-year-old remain unclear.
The 16-year-old, identified as Sylvester, is said to have drowned after joining some friends for a swim while returning from an errand for his mother.
According to the friend who raised the alarm, as they entered the river, Sylvester seemed to be pulled by something. When they were unable to save him, the friend ran to the community for help.
Unfortunately, all attempts to rescue Sylvester were unsuccessful until around 9 p.m., when his body surfaced.
The friend, who assured that Sylvester was capable of swimming, explained that this was not the first time they had swum in the river together.
