Troops of the 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued eight of the 10 persons abducted by suspected terrorists during a wedding ceremony in Dabawa, Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State.
A credible source at the Army Headquarters confirmed the development to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, disclosing that the attack occurred on Wednesday when an unconfirmed number of gunmen, reportedly dressed in military camouflage, stormed the venue and whisked away the victims.
According to the source, troops positioned at an ambush point along the Yankwada River line swiftly mobilised to the scene after receiving a distress call. The soldiers advanced to the general area and made contact with the fleeing attackers at Garu Village in neighbouring Katsina State.
The troops reportedly pursued the assailants up to the Katsina–Gidan Mutum Daya road axis before losing contact.
“During the operation, eight of the abducted girls were successfully rescued and have since been reunited with their families, while efforts are ongoing to track and rescue the remaining two victims,” the source said.
Military authorities added that clearance and search operations are continuing in the area to secure the release of the remaining victims and prevent further attacks. (NAN)
