Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke have thwarted a robbery attack, rescued abducted travellers, and recovered weapons in a series of coordinated operations across Taraba State.
The Brigade’s Acting Spokesperson, Lt. Umar Muhammad, disclosed the operations in a statement on Monday.
According to him, the first operation took place on 6 December in Manya, Takum Local Government Area, after soldiers received a distress call that armed robbers had barricaded the Manya–Takum Road and were dispossessing travellers.
He said the troops launched a swift clearance mission, forcing the criminals to flee and abandon an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and three rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, restoring safety along the route.
In another operation in Kufai Amadu, also in Takum LGA, troops rescued two abducted travellers following reports that four men from Bauchi State were kidnapped in Amadu Town while seeking directions to Baissa in Kurmi LGA.
Preliminary findings showed that two victims — Mr. Musa Danji and Mr. Yusuf — were taken deeper into the area by their captors, while coordinated search operations led to the rescue of two others, Mr. Yusuf Musa and Mr. Muhammed Umar, who had escaped. The search for the remaining victims is ongoing.
Also on 6 December, troops deployed in Iware, Ardo-Kola LGA, conducted an intelligence-led raid in Garin Sambo, Tau Village, recovering two pump-action guns, 13 cartridges, two motorcycles, and four mobile phones. Two suspects, Baba Wura Sambo and Mallam Adamu Darda, were arrested over alleged illegal possession of arms.
Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the personnel for their swift response and professionalism. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to sustained operations to dismantle criminal networks across the state and assured residents of heightened security throughout the Yuletide period.
