A fatal motor accident late on May 12, 2025, claimed the lives of four pedestrians along G.U. Ake Road in Rivers State.
The incident occurred around 11:42 PM and involved a Toyota Camry with registration number ABJ 10 EM, driven by 36-year-old Benson Peter Michael.
According to the Rivers State Police Command, the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck six pedestrians. Four died at the scene, while two others sustained injuries and were rushed to the Rivers State University Hospital for treatment.
The vehicle has since been recovered, and the driver is in police custody. Police Public Relations Officer SP Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed that the remains of the deceased have been deposited at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH) Mortuary.
The case has been handed over to the State Traffic Department for a full investigation into the cause of the crash. Iringe-Koko stated that the Command is committed to ensuring justice for the victims and remains dedicated to promoting road safety across the state.
