At least two people have been confirmed dead and two others seriously injured after a section of the only flyover bridge in Keffi, Nasarawa State, collapsed on Thursday.
According to eyewitnesses, the collapse occurred when a truck carrying an oversized container struck the bridge, causing part of the structure to cave in and crash onto vehicles and pedestrians below.
Emergency response teams and security personnel swiftly arrived at the scene, rescuing victims and securing the area to prevent further harm. The injured have been transported to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment.
While authorities have yet to release an official statement, family members have reportedly identified the deceased. Investigations are currently underway to determine the exact cause of the collapse, with particular focus on potential structural weaknesses and the impact of heavy vehicle traffic.
The incident has sparked renewed concerns among residents over the integrity of the infrastructure in the region. Many are calling on the government to implement stricter regulations on the movement of heavy-duty trucks, citing a long history of accidents and fatalities linked to overloading and poor road safety enforcement.
